Storytelling through art and movement
I experience life through the process of creation. It is my way to observe, investigate, create order, reflect, and remember. I offer artifacts and layered maps and stories through prints, drawings, sculptures, installations, and dance. Each medium has its own sensory properties and allows for different investigations into the recollection of memory, dreams, relationships, anxiety, desire, and the sensuous experience of movement and life. I am captivated by the interconnection of the earth and our bodies, their impermanence, and the duality of their strength and weakness. Our bodies are repositories for our personal and communal history, holding memory in the flesh, and their fragility is an ever-present reminder of the inevitability of decay and death. Like the body, memory also decays. Creation is an attempt to record what cannot be held, protecting against loss. It is a form of thinking that connects the physical and internal worlds, reaffirming their inseparability, and reclaiming the sensory experience of life. The awareness of the transience of all things compels me to create, ushering me to awareness, defining my life, and leading me to live with intention.
